I have always heard that one day it will all be over. The world will be destroyed in a horrific catasrophe. Of course it tells us this in the Bible in Revelations that God will return to destroy the earth and punish all the sinners. And only those that worship him will be saved.

Of course throughout history there have always been those who cried that the end was upon us and yet thousands of years later the earth is still here. With the uneventful passing of the infamous Y2K, you would think that we would not even think twice about such dire predictions.

However with the upcoming movie entitled 2012, it seems we are presented with another countdown to armaggedon. Now I have always been interested in watching movies with this kind of scenario. Movies such as Day after tomorrow, I am legend, 28 days later, Right at your door to name a few. In these movies man is thrown into impossible survival situations and they either die or survive. With this latest movie 2012 it tells us that the earth will be destroyed on Dec 23rd 2012. Apparently according to the Mayan calendar this date is the last day. The thing about the Mayan calendar is that it has proven to be so accurate that it predicted so accurately the precise time and place of solar

eclipses. The Mayan calendar even mapped the cycles of the moon so precisely that 1500 years later the calculations are off by only 33 seconds.

I did a bit of reading and found that there were other sources that also points to this same date. If this is all true, then what is there to look forward to? After all it is only 3 years away. I have always thought myself as a survivor. I have had some things throughout my life that I have had to fight through. I used to thrive in stressful situations. However the thought of surviving after a global disaster has me wondering. People I've talked to , those that don't laugh about the subject mostly say they would do anything to survive in the event that they lived after the disaster. I believe I would try to do the same. But surely even if you found yourself in a warehouse full of canned goods and such what kind of existence would that be? It's funny I've been playing this game called Fall Out 3 for awhile now. In it I play a survivor of a global destruction. I was in an underground shelter called a vault. The game consists mostly of survival and exploration of a radio active shattered earth called the wasteland. I really like the game but it actually gets depressing when you see all the destruction everywhere. And that's a game. It is hard to imagine what the world would be like. Hard to imagine that this earth would be destroyed. Yet the world has already had several phases like this such as the ice age. I see it as a cycle like a season. If this is the case I believe it is possible that we are heading for another such event. I hope it doesn't happen in our time. This is the kind of thing I'd rather watch at the movies or play on a video game.

But if , as time draws closer and things start to look dim. Will we start to gather supplies and head for the vaults? I'm still not sure what I will do at this point.
